Counseling and Workshops

Diogenes provides three types of direct counseling—individual, group, and family.  Generally, all three are offered in an effort to maximize the youth's and family's opportunities to explore the various aspects of their functioning and relationships.

Individual Counseling
Addresses many aspects from initial identification of needs to developmental issues of adolescence.  The primary objective is to assist the young person in the development of effective communication skills and to facilitate the process of realistic decision-making regarding his/her own best interests.

Group Counseling and workshops - assist youth and parents to develop and improve their interpersonal and communication skills.  Workshops differ from group counseling in that they are more structured and educational in nature.  Workshops address common areas of difficulty or interest including values clarification, substance abuse, sexuality, and family life adjustment skills, among others.  Group topics include breaking the cycle of violence, anger management, adolescent alcohol/drug treatment and recovery support, and parent and youth support groups to name just a few.

Family Counseling– recognizes the family as the primary unit with the responsibility and resources for resolving conflict and effecting change.  Family counseling is provided to assist families with identifying primary issues and concerns, exploring alternative resolution approaches, and developing support systems within the family structure.
